The Port of Cork is set to play a key role in Cork City becoming the fastest-growing urban area in Ireland over the next 20 years. Massive investment in its state-of-the-art port facilities includes the development of a Deepsea Terminal at Ringaskiddy and its other land holdings in conjunction with Cork County Council.
Port of Cork Business Development Support Manager, Brian Dooley, said: “The Port of Cork and the level of continued investment in our infrastructure will be a key growth enabler for the entire region over the next two decades. The service we provide offers industries, exporting and importing, an economic gateway to the globe, meeting the supply chain demands for industries in the region, which we hope will continue to strengthen and grow.”
“It is satisfying to work in a facility where there is great forward momentum and which plays a crucial role in the economic development of the whole country”, said SIPTU Port of Cork Shop Steward, Adrian O’Donovan.
The Port plays a key role in enabling the development of the pharmaceutical and other manufacturing companies in the Cork region. Its container terminal currently comprises 15 haulier bays, which provide images of cargo units prior to discharge and loading. This ensures the security and integrity of cargo shipments coming in and out of the Port.
SIPTU Organiser, Andrew Clune, said: “The Port of Cork recently joined the Supporting Quality campaign. Its story showcases how the Union’s influence can be strong in bringing industry together with the common goal of creating and sustaining quality jobs not just in the Port itself but in the industries it supports.”
